Artist Statement

I explore the intricate dynamics between individuals and their surroundings, seeking to capture both visible and unseen forces that shape human connection, whether through their presence or their absence. This journey is fueled by my fascination with how we observe and are observed, and how these interactions speak to deeper narratives of identity and experience.

Within my work I use traditional forms and textured layers of oil paint to encompass contemporary observations of people in their everyday routines. Sometimes I play with placing the viewer in the role of observer, and at other times making them the subject of the gaze. By juxtaposing these roles, I reflect on the ways in which we participate in and witness the world around us.

Drawing the viewer into my  cinematic canvases, the observer is forced to think beyond the present, wondering what happened before, and what happens next. These coated storylines overlap and intertwine yet are only witnessed by the environment in which they occur. Through narrative, portraiture, and the emotional weight of the mundane, I create a space where viewers are drawn into a dialogue, one that challenges perceptions of human connection and the constant interplay between seeing and being seen.
